The Department of Radiation Oncology would like to congratulate Drs. Bradly Wouters and Gregory Czarnota on being awarded grants through the Ontario Research Fund / Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). In all, CFI awarded more than $554 million to 117 new projects at universities, colleges and research hospitals across the country.

Dr. Bradly Wouters received $11,807,165 as lead researcher for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Precision Medicine Program. The Precision Medicine Program is the second largest award given to a single project in this competition. This funding will allow tumour cells from patients to be analyzed using a variety of advanced methods and then cross analyzed and linked to patient outcomes. This project will ultimately enable the development of more effective cancer therapies that are better tailored to individual patients.

Dr. Gregory J. Czarnota was awarded $3,341,552 for his collaborative project on Combined MRI-Linac Ultrasound Therapy Instrumentation. Dr. Czarnota and his team use ultrasound as functional imaging to monitor tumour metabolic activity, applying special software to detect the absence or presence of cell death.

Please join us in congratulating and celebrating the achievements of our colleagues!
