Call for Support: Public funding for Proton Beam Therapy for Cancer in Children and Adults

The OHTAC (Ontario Health Technology Advisory Committee) has just released its recommendation to the public regarding Proton Therapy for Ontario yesterday, and its draft recommendation is:

Ontario Health, based on guidance from the Ontario Health Technology Advisory Committee, recommends publicly funding proton beam therapy for pediatric cancers and a subset of adult cancers requiring curative radiation therapy.

Ontario Health is now awaiting the public’s response to their Proton Beam Therapy for Cancer in Children and Adultsreport. The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto (UTDRO) strongly urges everyone to submit their support for this draft recommendation. Your submission could be categorized as:

  • Clinician
  • Patient/caregiver
  • Researcher
  • Administrator
  • Industry
  • Others

Please encourage your personal and professional circles to provide similar support for this extremely important undertaking.

If successful, the establishment of this proton program would be the first hospital-based facility in the country, and would allow patients to receive care locally.
