It is with mixed sentiments that I announce that Dr. Brian O’Sullivan will be retiring from full time clinical practice at the Princess Margaret (PM) Cancer Centre, effective April 1st, 2017. Dr. O’Sullivan will remain clinically active on a part time basis, and will be a Consultant within DRO, as well as retaining his rank of Full Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Toronto.

Over the past 32 years, Dr. O’Sullivan has been an invaluable member of the Princess Margaret Department of Radiation Oncology, and the multidisciplinary management teams of Sarcoma and Head & Neck cancer.  He is an internationally-renowned leader and expert in the management of these diseases, and his achievements span across multiple arenas including education, cancer staging, clinical trials, outcomes assessments, and global cancer control.  As a clinician-scientist, Dr. O’Sullivan has led a number of practice-changing clinical trials and research studies both in sarcoma and head & neck cancer.  He has published well over 350 peer-reviewed publications during his distinguished career; he is a highly sought-after speaker, and advisor on many scientific boards and agencies.  As expected, he has received innumerable awards and honours, including the most recent 2017 CCSRI “O. Harold Warwick Prize” in recognition of his immense contributions to cancer control.

Despite moving away from full time clinical practice, Dr. O’Sullivan will continue his important academic work on behalf of the Radiation Medicine Program/Princess Margaret, as well as the University of Toronto – Department of Radiation Oncology.  We will be hosting a celebration event for Dr. O’Sullivan on April 7th, 2017, with a Symposium focusing on the themes of his expertise and achievements over the years.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Brian O’Sullivan on his spectacularly distinguished career and all of his accomplishments, and wishing him continued success in his future professional pursuits within Toronto and beyond!
