Welcome to the Class of 2021!
Congratulations on your admission to the Medical Radiation Sciences (MRS) Program.
We’re excited to welcome you into our community in September, but before classes start there’s some important information you’ll need to review and actions that you’ll need to take.
To ensure that you’re ready and well-informed, please refer to the following 9 action items and check this page regularly for updates!
1. Apply for Residence (Deadline: July 1, 2018)
If you’re moving to Toronto or looking for nearby accommodations, you might consider living on campus at U of T or at Michener. To learn more about the residence options on the U of T campus follow the MyRes link below. If you are interested in becoming a part of the residence community at Michener’s Schatz Hall Residence you should apply before July 1 to avoid being automatically wait listed. If you are looking for off-campus housing or shared accommodations, please refer to the U of T Housing and Roommate Finder below.

2. Submit Outstanding Documents and Satisfy Conditions of Your Offer of Admission (Deadline: July 15, 2018)
If you have not submitted final/official transcripts for all studies to date (including Winter courses), or if you are currently enrolled in Spring courses, your Offer of Admission will remain conditional until all outstanding documents are submitted and the requirements indicated within your Offer of Admission have been fully satisfied.
Please be aware that the deadline to satisfy all conditions of your offer is July 15 and that failure to meet this deadline may result in the withdrawal of your Offer of Admission. Please continue to check the JOIN Portal to verify the status of your documents and to confirm that they have been received by U of T as soon as possible and in advance of the July 15 deadline.
3. Prepare to Submit Health Requirements & Vulnerable Sector Check (Deadline: August 29, 2018)
The MRS program requires that all students submit a current and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and meet a number of health requirements. The Deadline to satisfy the majority of these requirements is August 29. As early as mid-June you will be granted full access to the Michener Self-Service portal which will allow you to upload and review the status of your health requirement documentation. Your access will be granted when you receive notification from Michener regarding the creation of your Michener email account (see item #4).
4. Set-up Your U of T and Michener Accounts
As an MRS student you will have access to both U of T and Michener online services. You’ll access ACORN at U of T where you’ll find information about fees and your U of T academic record, but you’ll use the Michener Self-Service portal to view your class schedule and access course information. You will also have both a U of T and Michener email address, but your Michener address will be the primary way we will connect with you.
Your U of T ACORN Account
You will Login to ACORN (Accessible Campus Online Resource Network) to check fees and finances and to complete other records tasks such as making updates to address and contact information. ACORN recently replaced U of T’s previous system (known as ROSI) and has been designed to provide a more convenient, personalized and guided experience for students. To access ACORN, you will use your UTORid / JOINid and password.
It is your responsibility to update your current address and phone number. During the academic session, all correspondence mailed by the University of Toronto will be sent to your mailing address. If you are new to U of T, the personal data currently entered in ACORN was taken from the information provided by OUAC (Ontario Universities’ Application Centre). Please ensure that this information is updated no later than September 4, 2018.
After you have received your TCard (see item #8) you will be able to activate your UTmail email account.
Your Michener Account
Beginning mid-June, Michener will create email addresses for all new incoming students. Michener will send you a message (to the email address associated with your application) to confirm the creation of your account. Once you have received this notification, all official MRS communications will be sent to your Michener email account and you will have full access to the Michener Self-Service portal.
You’ll learn more about how to setup and use Michener’s other online resources at New Student Orientation on August 29 and 30.
5. Pay Your Fees (Fee Payment/Deferral Deadline: August 27, 2018)
Your MRS Program tuition and ancillary fees are paid to U of T.
Your fees must be paid at a bank (in person, at a bank machine, via telephone banking or online) before the deadline, and you’ll need a copy of your financial account (in invoice format) printed from ACORN for reference. You can access your invoice by logging into the SWS. From the Home screen, select Financial Account on the left hand side, then, after clicking this link, you can select Show Invoice which will allow you to view and print your invoice. If you have applied for funding from OSAP or another provincial/government student assistance program, and you are not able to pay your fees by the deadline, you can apply for a tuition deferral.
If you have been approved for OSAP, you will automatically be assessed for additional financial support through the UTAPS program. Students receiving financial assistance from another Province/Territory must complete the online UTAPS application and upload a copy of the Notice of Assessment from their home province. (The updated 2018-19 UTAPS application will be available online in late summer/early fall.)
If you still have unmet financial needs, you may apply for the MRS Program Bursary. More information will be made available in September and the application deadline will be October 12, 2018.

6. Review Your Registration and Course Timetable (August)
We will automatically register you in the appropriate courses. You are not required to make any course selections or submit registration forms. All candidates admitted to the first year Medical Radiation Sciences Program will be enrolled in the required curriculum set by the Program.
Your academic schedule/timetable will be posted on the Michener Self-Service Portal during the second week of August.
In June, a list of required textbooks for the 2018-2019 academic year will be posted on the Michener Textbook List.In addition to costs associated with textbooks, materials and supplies for your first year are estimated to cost approximately $100.
Your first day of classes will be Tuesday, September 4. For more information about important session dates, please refer to the Calendar on our website.
7. Review the MRS Handbook
The MRS Handbook is your guide to program information as well as both academic and health and safety policies. The Handbook, which is updated annually, outlines your rights and responsibilities and is an important reference tool for MRS students.
In early September we will ask you to submit a form to confirm that you have read and understand the information provided in the Handbook. The 2018-2019 Handbook will be available in July. The current version of the Handbook is available on the Resources page of our website.

8. Get Your ID Cards (Before September 4)
To access Michener and U of T services and facilities you will need to have both your Michener ID card and your U of T “TCard”.
Your U of T TCard will be issued by the TCard Office. If you have attended U of T before, you may keep your existing TCard. If you do not have a TCard please visit the TCard Office in the Koffler Student Service Centre at 214 College Street, Room 102. You will need to obtain your TCard by September 4. After you have obtained your TCard you will be able to activate your U of T email account.
Your Michener ID card will be issued by the Student Success Network (SSN). Beginning Monday, July 16, you may email a jpg self-photo (head shot only) to email@example.com. Be sure to include your name and program. Your card will be ready for pick up during Orientation week. If you are unable to submit a photo via email please visit the Student Success desk in the Michener lobby during Orientation.
If you will be frequently commuting locally or regionally, you may wish to purchase transit passes at the discounted student rate. To qualify for the GO Transit discounted student fare, you must have a GO-approved student ID. For more information, visit the Go Student ID page . MRS students also qualify for the TTC Post-Secondary Monthly Metropass. For more information visit the TTC website.
9. Attend Orientation (August 29 & August 30) & Start Classes! (September 4)
All new students must attend New Student Orientation. Mandatory days will be August 29 and 30 with an optional day on August 31. This event is designed to introduce you to your new community and academic environment. More information about orientation events will be emailed to you and posted online at the link below. Although information for Fall 2018 Orientation events is not yet available, you can review last year's 2017 Michener Orientation Information
We also encourage you to take part in OrientationFest activities at U of T. The U of T Students' Union has planned a full week of activities to welcome you to campus and to introduce you to your new U of T community. More information is available at: http://www.orientationfest.ca/
Your first day of classes will be Tuesday, September 4 – one week earlier than most U of T programs. For a complete calendar of important session dates, please refer to the Calendar page of our website.
