FAQs

Q. Are guests allowed to attend the Pre-Convocation Awards Ceremony & Reception as well?

A. Absolutely!  Your guests are more than welcome to attend the luncheon in the Debates Room at Hart House (7 Hart House Circle). When you RSVP your acceptance to the luncheon, please remember to indicate the number of guests you are bringing.

Q. If I go to the reception, how and when do I pick up my gown and hood?

A. Previously all gowns and hoods were picked up from the marshalling room 1 ½ hours before the ceremony start time.  That will mean that the graduates will have to leave the luncheon at 1:00pm. Your guests are welcome to stay in the Debates Room until 2:00pm or make their way to their seats in Convocation Hall.

Q. What time does Convocation Hall open for guests of graduates?

A. The doors to Convocation Hall are opened to guests approximately 1.5 hours prior to the ceremony start time; please note it is recommended guests have their seats at least half an hour in advance.

Q. Why do I have to RSVP twice for the Convocation?

A. The Office of Convocation is responsible for the actual ceremony.  It’s imperative that you RSVP with their office in order to be called on stage.  If you have any questions with regards to the Convocation held at Convocation Hall – kindly direct your inquiries to convocation.office@utoronto.ca.

The Pre-Convocation Awards Ceremony & Reception is being hosted by the University of Toronto’s Department of Radiation Oncology (UT DRO).  This reception is being held in the Debates Room at Hart House (7 Hart House Circle).  We need to know the number of people attending this luncheon for catering purposes. If you have any questions with regards to the Pre-Convocation Reception – kindly direct your inquiries to Tanya Webb at tanya.webb@utoronto.ca.

Please ensure you RSVP to both the Office of Convocation and to the UT DRO (Tanya).

Q. I am not attending convocation, how do I receive my degree?

A. Answer - If you do not attend Convocation then you may obtain your diploma in one of the following ways:

If you are not attending your ceremony, please RSVP “not attending” on ACORN.
You may collect your diploma in person at the Office of Convocation. Please see the timelines for pickup below and bring your University of Toronto TCard or valid government-issued photo identification (please note that we cannot accept an Ontario Health Card as photo identification) with you.
You may send another individual to collect it on your behalf.  That individual must provide a Fillable Diploma Pickup Letter of Authorization from you that must include the name of individual that the diploma is to be released to, your student number, degree earned and your original signature (faxed or otherwise electronically sent copies will not be accepted). The authorized individual must also provide suitable identification (see timelines for pickup below).
For a fee, you may have your diploma delivered to you after all ceremonies have concluded.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

The Office of Convocation will hold your diploma for one year following the date of Convocation.

If you are graduating in March 2016, diplomas will be available for collection as of March 16th.
If you are graduating in June 2016, diplomas will be available for collection as of June 21st.
If you are graduating in November 2016, diplomas will be available for collection as of (TBC).

Q. How many tickets are provided for each graduate?

A. There are 2 tickets provided for each graduate.

Q. How do I get extra tickets?

A. Please note, you will need to RSVP and have a Gown Rental ID number to order extra guest tickets. If you own U of T regalia, you will need to speak to a staff member at the Office of Convocation (416) 978-5940 before you RSVP online or order your extra guest tickets.

If tickets become available because members of the graduating class are not attending their convocation, they will be released to those who have replied via our online form indicating that they will be attending. You can request extra tickets via our online RSVP and Ticket Request form available through ACORN between May 2nd and May 17th. The RSVP and Guest Ticket Request form will close on May 17th. Confirmation of your allotment of extra tickets (if requested and granted) will be available on May 19th through ACORN.

Q. I was wondering who I would contact to get a frame w/ the U of T trim on it, Michener was selling theirs so I assume that U of T would be doing the same.

A. The UofT Bookstore sells diploma frames and Class of 2016 gifts which include a Class of 2016 bear, mugs, tees, pens and other quality items available for purchase.

During the convocation ceremonies, on-the-spot diploma framing is available in Convocation Plaza, which is located adjacent to Convocation Hall.  Along with diploma frames, UofT gifts and memorabilia will be sold at the Bookstore booth in the Plaza.

Diploma frames can be purchased outside of the convocation season directly at the Bookstore.  Visit the UofT Bookstore or call 416-640-5835 for details.
